When Katherine first came back to Mystic Falls in , she was jealous of Elena for earning the affections of both Stefan and Damon , as she had also had relationships with both brothers in the past and, while she never truly loved Damon, she was still in love with Stefan. Damon and Elena have a daughter. And her name is Stefanie Salvatore. It's beautiful news because the last time we saw Damon and Elena, they were happy and living their best lives. She was good friends with her ancestor Katherine Pierce, a vampire she often conspired with.
She was also a relative to the Gilbert Family, as she was Elena's biological mother. The Petrova Doppelgangers were specifically created as a means of breaking the real curse. The real curse was on Klaus, a Hybrid. A hybrid is more powerful than any single vampire or any werewolf, therefore witches the servants of nature cursed Klaus forcing his werewolf side to become dormant. Stefan and his brother Damon Salvatore died in Like the Mikaelsons before them, they both fell in love with a Petrova doppelganger, this time known as Katherine Pierce.
As the years passed, their roles changed and Damon became the sadistic brother while Stefan worked to repent for his ways. Katherine fell in love with Stefan when she met him in Mystic Falls in Before Tyler was resurrected as a werewolf, Klaus remained the only hybrid of his bloodline until Adyelya , who is of Klaus' blood, sired Katherine. It is possible to unlink a vampire from their bloodline using magic, as Davina attempted in Season Two of The Originals, but her efforts were sabotaged by Kol.
In "The Vampire Diaries," lead Elena Gilbert Nina Dobrev was 17 at the start of the series, while vampire brothers Stefan Paul Wesley and Damon Salvatore Ian Somerhalder were and years old, respectively as the show explains within the first season. Katherine stands and tries to get away but Damon is blocking the door. She seems to accept that there is no way out this time and she asks who has the traveler knife to stab her. She says goodbye to everyone in her own way leaving Stefan last.
Basically, if she's in the mood to off someone, she will. Other characters have a higher body count, but they at least seemed to have some rationale behind most of the murders they committed. Katherine definitely likes to be the star of the show, so the thought of being upstaged by Elena Gilbert seemed to drive her crazy. Their personalities seem to naturally clash so no one would ever expect them to be friends, but Katherine's hatred of Elena seemed to be completely over the top.
Maybe it's because she was jealous, maybe it was because she hated seeing someone who was so much like the weak human girl that she used to be, or maybe she just hated looking at someone with the same face as her. Regardless of the reason, Katherine seemed to hate Elena for sport. Many characters have senselessly died throughout the long run of The Vampire Diaries , however one of the most needlessly cruel murders in the history of the show has got to be when Katherine fed Jeremy to Silas.
Honestly it was just completely unnecessary and it seemed to be fueled by the fact that Jeremy was annoying Katherine in the moment, but this particular kill is a prime example of Katherine's complete lack of care and consideration when it comes to killing people, as well as her bizarrely over the top cruelty and brutality towards her doppelganger, Elena Gilbert.
Obviously there is a bit of a running theme here when it comes to Katherine's shamelessness towards using and abusing Elena Gilbert.
But the creepiest instance of Katherine's mistreatment of Elena is when Katherine literally stole Elena's body and tried to steal her entire life. Katherine is a survivor above all things, but it seemed like she was at least attempting to turn over a new leaf when she knew that the end of her life was nigh.
However, at the last gasp Katherine got cold feet, and she decided to install herself into Elena's body. But to make things worse, she didn't just take over Elena's body and bail, she decided to become Elena Gilbert. It's one thing to kill people you barely know as collateral damage in this seemingly endless smackdown between the most powerful vampires and supernatural creatures in the world.
But it's an entirely different animal to let the people that you love die for your own sake. When Katherine first came back to Mystic Falls in , she was jealous of Elena for earning the affections of both Stefan and Damon, as she had also had relationships with both brothers in the past and, while she never truly loved Damon, she was still in love with Stefan.
Katherine is a great villain but a terrible person. Elena was far more compassionate throughout the series, showing genuine love for her friends and demonstrating that she cared about people much more than her evil doppelganger. Katherine tries to get Bonnie to do as she says by threatening Elena. Katherine later attacks Elena, accusing her of stealing her happiness and not deserving it, and they engage in a battle.
Katherine stabs Elena in the neck and almost kills her, until Elena shoves the cure down her throat, turning her human.
